The Academy Awards took place last night, and although there were no big surprises, there were a few surprises when it came to who wore what!
As ever, there were plenty of looks from red carpet favourites such as Marchesa, Elie Saab and Armani, with red, purple and nude appearing to be the most popular colour choices of the evening.
Here are my favourite looks…
Amy Adams looked beautiful in a blue sequinned gown by L’Wren Scott, which did a great job of flaunting her fabulous figure! I LOVED the jewels she wore, the emeralds looked amazing against the blue sequins…
Never one afraid of making a brave sartorial decision, Cate Blanchett was without a doubt one of the best dressed ladies on the red carpet in Givenchy Couture.
Best Actor Colin Firth wore a Tom Ford tuxedo, while his beautiful wife Livia continued her Green Carpet Challenge by wearing a dress which was made of 11 dresses, all from the era of film for which Colin won his Oscar, The King’s Speech. Her dress was created by Gary Harvey and she accessorised with jewellery that is the first in the world to receive the fairtrade fairmined ecological stamp. She looks gorgeous, I love the pale pink colour on her, and Colin looks handsome as ever!
I think that Gwyneth Paltrow looks the best she ever has in this Calvin Klein gown. I love everything about this look, especially how she accessorised with those fabulous Louis Vuitton jewels!
Halle Berry is more often found in skin baring Elie Saab gowns, so it was refreshing to see her in this gorgeous, frothy Marchesa number.
Many of us had expected Helena Bonham Carter to wear Vivienne Westwood on the red carpet, but instead it was Dame Helen Mirren who wore a gown by the British designer. And like Demi Moore who has also recently been spotted in a Vivienne Westwood column gown, Helen Mirren looks fantastic as ever!
Michelle Williams looks stunning in her pearl beaded column dress from Chanel’s recent couture show. I love her hair style and colour, she looks so pretty.
Mila Kunis has come a long way from the days of That 70′s Show…and she looks amazing in her lilac Elie Saab gown, which is the perfect mix between sweet and sexy.
Nicole Kidman was one of the few stars who chose to wear Dior on the red carpet, following the John Galliano scandal which has unfolded over the past few days. Scandal aside, she looks beautiful, though slightly bridal…and a pop of colour came from her red heels.
Penelope Cruz had a baby boy a few months ago…and motherhood obviously agrees with her as she looks radiant in this L’Wren Scott dress which flaunts her fabulous curves…and rightly so! Her husband, Javier Bardem donned a Gucci black peak lapel ‘Signoria’ tuxedo with two button fastening, which was one of only a few three-piece tuxedos on the night.
Lots of critics were divided by Reese Witherspoon’s ensemble on Sunday night, but I think she looks amazing! I love the volumised pony tail which adds a fun element to an otherwise classic look. Her emerald jewellery is absolutely beautiful and adds a striking touch of colour to her chic look.
Sandra Bullock brought an old Hollywood vibe to the occasion in her red Vera Wang gown. I love that she was not afraid to team this with red lipstick and a red clutch…when you look this good in red, why not wear lots of it?!
As a face of Dolce and Gabanna, it was always very likely that Scarlett Johansson was going to wear one of their designs on the red carpet. This lace dress is not the most exciting of the gowns we saw on Oscars night, but the colour works wonderful with her blonde hair!
Hailee Steinfeld co-designed her Marchesa gown, which is probably the reason why it looks so perfect! This dress is just right for someone of her age, and I loved that she swapped her heels for converse at the after parties.
