Newry is set to make its mark on Northern Ireland’s style map by welcoming a week of fabulous stylish events which will celebrate all that is fashionable and glamorous about the city.
The festival of events will launch with a catwalk show in popular nightspot Bellini’s on Sunday 10 April where the ‘Style City Show’ will boast the spring and summer trends from local boutiques and high-street favourites. This three hour fashion frenzy, which promises to set the tone for a truly fabulous week, also incorporates exhibitors from around the city. Accessories, designer shoes, handbags, jewellery and clothes can be purchased straight from the catwalk and style advice can be sought from the experts and you can try out the latest makeup and hairstyles. Those lucky enough to snap up one of the hottest tickets in town will be treated to cocktails and canapés and will leave with a fabulous goodie bag in hand.
Following on, Newry will continue to ooze style and glamour as it hosts various fringe events throughout the week in venues such as the Canal Court Hotel, Grounded, Bellini’s, The Quays, Buttercrane, Southern Regional College, Jack Murphy Jewellers, The Bank and ‘cyberspace’ – with such selection there is certainly something for everyone. Many of these will be free and there will be lots of opportunities to win prizes throughout the week.
The marathon of style will be rounded off with the piece de resistance, ‘Newry’s Most Stylish’ Awards. This glitzy awards ceremony will be held in the Vault Nightclub at the Bank Bar on Sunday 17 April at 7pm and will recognise Newry City’s style ambassadors, those who we know from our place of work or from around the city who always look amazing and effortless. There are categories to cover male and females in all age groups and there should be plenty of competition, so save your glad rags, for this is one not to be missed. Nominate a friend, a colleague or yourself. If you’ve got it, style it!
Orla Jackson, Chief Executive of Newry Chamber of Trade and Commerce, the organisation behind the event said, “The idea for ‘Newry Style City’ came from a desire for local retailers to come together to do something different. This is the very first time we have tried something on this scale and we really hope local retailers and people from right across the greater Newry area will get behind it. We have already had significant support from many organisations including Newry & Mourne District Council, The Quays, Buttercrane, SILK Emporium, Jack Murphy Jewellers, Cahill Shoes, Berling, McEvoy’s, Dali, Diageo, Bellinis and The Bank Bar as well as Sugahfix.com and Impact Sales Solutions. Without this support we couldn’t possibly run an event on this scale. We would also like to thank all those involved in organising or hosting events. We really hope that this will become an annual or bi-annual event which will put the retail, hospitality and tourism sectors in Newry on the fashion map.”
Indulge your passion for fashion this Spring at ‘Newry Style City’ 10 – 17 April 2011.
