Following the sell-out success of last year’s inaugural Polo In The City, this exciting sporting and social event will return to Lower Botanic Playing Fields at Stranmillis Embankment on Saturday, August 25, raising funds for charity Mencap.
The event will welcome a number of polo teams to battle each other in a series of exhilarating and fast paced polo matches. The games will be adapted to teams of three a side to create a fast and furious format on a smaller field, to make for a more exciting experience for spectators.
As well as the on-field action, the day will boast a fantastic selection of hospitality, entertainment and VIP experiences. There will be a number of relaxed and stylish marquees available, including a Veuve Clicquot Champagne Marquee, where spectators will be able to relax and soak up the atmosphere of the day. Citybeat radio will also be broadcasting live from the venue. To mark the end of the polo matches early evening, a gourmet barbeque will be served and an onsite post polo party will commence.
The sporting element of the day will be supported by the Northern Ireland Polo Club, and they are thrilled to see their sport taking place in the heart of the city. Robert Park, Hon. Secretary for the club said: “The Northern Ireland Polo Club is delighted to support and participate in Polo in the City 2012, raising vital funds for local charity Mencap. The mix of polo in a city setting and the pitch side festivities is one not to be missed. Just remember ladies that wedges are better than heels for treading in at half time!”
With several new additions, this year’s event promises to be bigger and better than before. These additions include a modern and stylish VIP Veuve Clicquot Champagne Garden encompassing the most desirable seating in the hottest spot of the grounds. House of Fraser Belfast will add to the wardrobes of both Best Dressed Female and Best Dressed Male on the day. The winners will both receive incredible prize packages to the value of £3,500 each. Michelle Jackson, store manager of House of Fraser said: “We are delighted to once again be back at Polo In The City and to be able to introduce Best Dressed Prizes. It was great to see such eclectic style at last year’s event and my fellow judges and I are looking forward to seeing what Northern Ireland’s fashionable ladies and gents choose to wear this year.”
The core reason behind the event is to raise money for Northern Ireland’s leading disability charity, Mencap. Maureen Piggot, Director of Mencap in Northern Ireland, said: “We are very excited to welcome our supporters to join us once again at Polo In The City. Our fundraising team, along with our Young Professionals Committee, have being working hard behind the scenes to ensure that the event will be fun for everyone and of course raise vital funds for Mencap. All the funds raised through Polo in the City will go directly towards improving the lives of children and adults with learning disabilities across Northern Ireland.”
Tickets for the event are £65.00 and are available via mencap.org.uk/polointhecity. To enquire about hospitality packages please contact Mencap directly on 028 9069 1351. For further details and regular event updates visit facebook.com/polointhecity or follow the event on twitter @polointhecityni
